Historic housing decline impacts lumber markets, Western mills
The worst downturn in housing construction since World War II will create difficult markets for Western lumber mills in 2008 before a slow recovery starts in 2009, according to a new WWPA forecast. Housing starts this year are expected to fall below 1 million units, pushing lumber demand to 45.3 billion board feet. For more on the Association's lumber market outlook, go to the Newsroom.

Fire codes hit exterior lumber

California has adopted new requirements for lumber products used in exterior applications, such as siding, decking and soffits. While additional fire testing is underway, WWPA has prepared a new Tech Note listing siding, decking and soffit products that have been approved so far by the state. Click here to review the new California standards and download WWPA's Tech Note 2008-01.
